Hi all - I received a call from my long-time friend's
sister Pat this evening. Lina has been battling cancer for 15 years.... she put up
a good, long fight! The cancer started in her breast, spread to the spine and
eventually went to her liver. She died yesterday, September 15. She was my
age, 65. She and Ed visited with us on this past June 24; we had breakfast at
Cracker Barrel in Winchester and they headed on back to Colorado. She shared with me
via a recent e-mail when they returned home that she really had not felt well on their
trip back East. (She looked good to me and certainly did not look ill!) They
had attended a wedding in Harrisonburg and visited us on the way back to their home in
Colorado. She will be buried in Arlington National Cemetery on Tuesday, September
25. She leaves behind a husband of 44 years, Ed, two daughters and three
grandchildren. Life is indeed short! We just never know what tomorrow will
bring, to quote my mother. Stay well and live life to it's fullest! Love to
Thanks for the kind words. Please inform your high school friends that Lina passed
away in the company of me, our two daughters (Cecilia Marie and Laura Lee). Her
passing a blessing in disguise. Her suffering was over. She really suffered
during the last 4 months. We really miss her! However, we are ccmforted by the
knowledge that she is more comfortable now and in a better place. Please keep in
1980 Reunion Directory:
I got married in 1963 to Ed Smith who was from Louisiana. We have two daughters:
Cecilia Marie was born in 1964 and Laura Lee was born in 1973. We have done a lot of
moving in the last 17 years. We've lived in Maine, Texas, Taiwan, Australia, and
Maryland. Our permanent home is Columbia, Maryland, but currently we are living in
Yakima, Washington, that's right--We got the pleasure of cleaning up after Mt. St. Helen.
Right now I am working part time for the Bureau of Indian Affairs.
1995 Reunion Directory:
Sorry I cannot attend the reunion. Colorado is a long way from Virginia.
My husband and I both retired on early retirement from the US Government. We
are now living in Frisco, Colorado, which is smack in the middle of ski country near
Keystone/Breckenridge/ Copper/Vail ski areas. We have two children: Marie (31) now
living in Australia, and Laura (22) who just graduated from college.
