Helen Lovejoy Gardner of Winchester, a lay eucharistic
minister at Trinity Church in Boston, died Thursday in her home. She was 68.
Mrs. Gardner was born in Lincoln, Massachusetts.
She attended Concord High School and Endicott Junior College in Beverly,
She lived in Waltham,
Massachusetts, Long Beach, California, Washington, D.C., Mare Island, California, and
Cherry Hill, New Jersey, before settling in Winchester, Massachusetts. Her husband
was in the military for 20 years.
Mrs. Gardner was a former
president of the Winchester Home and Garden Club and a member of the EnKa Society, a
women's charitable and service organization in Winchester.
She was also a member of the
Flower Guild at Trinity Church and officiated at evening prayer services.
Previously, she was a member of the First Congregational Church of Winchester, where she
served on several boards and committees.
She leaves her husband, Richmond;
two daughters, Cynthia Gardner Willis of Willow Grove, Pennsylvania, and Amy E. of South
Boston; two sons, Richmond L. of Pensacola, Florida, and David F. of New York; a twin
sister, Louise Simmons, of Amherst, New Hampshire; and a grandchild.
The funeral will be held in Trinity Church on
Thursday at 5 p.m. Burial will be February 26 in Oakwood Cemetery in East Quogue,
