Harvey Krasney MR. HARVEY KRASNEY, Orchestra; Music Appreciation; String Ensemble
The Washington Post, Washington, D.C. - April 10, 2012

Harvey M. Krasney, of Arlington, Virginia, passed away on April 1, 2012.   Beloved husband of the late Eleanor U. Krasney, beloved father of Ronald H., Philip A. and the late Reginald A. Krasney, beloved grandfather of Benjamin, Brian, Mitchell and Joshua Krasney, and beloved brother of Marvin and the late Samuel Krasney.

Harvey was a notable violinist and music educator in the Washington area.  He received his Bachelors degree in Music at Case Western Reserve University in 1943 and his Bachelors and Masters degrees in Violin Performance from the Julliard School of Music in 1948.  He was passionate about music, and played in numerous orchestras, chamber ensembles and show groups in over seven decades of performing.  He was also the founding Music Director and Conductor of the Fairfax Symphony Orchestra, positions he held for over 20 years.  Harvey was cherished by his students in the music program in Arlington County Public Schools and his private violin students.  His interests outside of music included gardening (he was a master cultivator of roses) and fishing.   Harvey also served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Graveside services will be held at King David Memorial Gardens in Falls Church at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 12. Shiva will be observed in the family home from 7 to 10 p.m. that evening.  Contributions in Harvey's memory may be made to the American Heart Association.

Fond memories of Mr. Krasney at Massenetta Music Camp and joint performances of Arlington's Choirs and Orchestras.  May the memories always keep his music alive.   He touched so many of us with his humor and love of music.
