Ann Winfrey Purcell Wentworth LeVere Flagg, 88, a retired business English and typing teacher in the Arlington County school system, died of cancer January 3 at the home of her son in Conway, South Carolina.

A former resident of Arlington, Mrs. Flagg was born in Green Ridge, Missouri.  She graduated from Missouri State Teachers College in Springfield, Missouri, and later attended Western Kentucky Teachers College and American University.

She moved to the Washington area in 1938 and joined the Arlington schools as a teacher at Washington-Lee High.  She remained there until 1959, when she transferred to Wakefield High.  She retired in 1972.

Mrs. Flagg moved from Arlington to Lignum, Virginia, at that time and resided there until moving to Conway in 1993.

Her marriage to Jack N. Purcell ended in divorce.  Her second husband, Sydney Wentworth, died in 1959. Her third husband, Roland LeVere, died in 1978.  Her fourth husband, Dale H. Flagg, died in 1988.

Survivors include a son from her first marriage, Jack Allen Purcell of Conway; a sister, Mary Elizabeth Wright of Bethesda; four grandsons; and four great-grandsons.
