The Class of 1969 had a wonderful reunion celebration in late September, with over 120 of us gathering for a weekend of activities. We started with a tour of the impressive new high school, where classmates admired the superior facilities, especially as compared to our old building (though we missed hanging out in "senior" court!). That evening we convened at classmate Freddie Lutz's Beach Bar on 23rd St. for happy hour followed by small group dinners there and at other nearby restaurants. Kudos to Freddie for donating an amazing 40% of happy hour proceeds to the Wakefield Education Fund for scholarships, motivating all to "drink up" in support of the cause!
Sunday morning small group brunches (where Keyettes sang their official song) were followed by a fabulous evening of dinner and dancing at Army Navy Country Club! We enjoyed drinks and hors d'oeuvres on the rooftop terrace (with views of Washington Monument), an elegant buffet dinner, music by NewFoundSound alums (Glenn Taylor, Drew Hannah, Lin Arison, and Jimmy Ayres), a gathering for class photos, a moment to remember fallen Wakefield Warriors, lots of dancing (initiated by classmates who married each other and including dozens of ladies in a "girl group" boogie), and most especially, great conversations as we reconnected with friends and classmates from five decades past. Class President (for life) Jeanie Walls Knisely mc'ed the evening with cheers to Sally Schwoeffermann Bimrose (traveled farthest to attend) and Anita James Price (69th person to register), then a toast along with co-chair Marilyn Holmes wishing everyone good friends, good fortune, good health, and the time to enjoy all three.
Such an exciting evening with so many of us together, sharing our stories, making new memories, brightening our future. Special thanks to the many, many volunteers who gave their time and energy to make this a success and for all who came from near and far to join this special occasion!
Followup for classmates, don't forget:
